Previous version as 7.5% - 8% carbs!

The Instinct line of kibble are shipping new “versions”. The new Instinct Chicken Kibble for Cats carbohydrate level is 12.5%.

Old version said 14% where this one has 17%

I don't know, but I do know that the new formula is higher in carbs, even using their numbers. Presumably whatever calculation method they are using is the same for both versions, plus when you see higher vegetable contents, the carbs can only go higher.

Corn, wheat, and rice are grains and definitely not needed.

Peas, beans, and lentils are legumes and contain some protein in addition to the carbohydrate. Not the best protein source, but less expensive than meat and that's a reason why they get used.

Tubers such as beets, carrots, and rutabagas are starchy vegetables and also not needed.

Which vegetables are you seeing?

Switched cat to Wysong Epigen dry with supposedly has no carbs. Unlike young Again, this is much easier to buy and comes in three flavors (the 90 is also Chicken). I have had my cat on this for only a few days and I have already had to cut back on his insulin quite a bit. I will report back after another couple of weeks, but I was not expecting to be able to do this since Nature's Variety in it's old formula is already pretty low in carbs.
