Thelma & Sinbad

Looks like Sinbad has stumped me and his doctor again! Gave him his breakfast, which came up about an hour later (or he could have thrown up last night without me knowing). Doctor gave him a script of Cerenia and he has an appointment for Monday for labs. I would truly like to know what is going on with him and make it better. :( My other three seem to be healthy, ugh... poor Sinny.
 
Oh, dear ... :( Sinbad is having such a tough time of it right now. I hope that you and your vet get to the root of the problem soon.

Are you raising Sinbad's food and water bowls? It's a simple thing, but it might help a little.

Oh Thelma, I'm so sorry. I know how stressful it is (for both you and Sinny) when our kitties are sick.

Heads up that he may get super lethargic on the Cerenia. That happened to Marshmallow. ECID, so he may be fine. If he doesn't do well on Cerenia, Marsh does really well on Ondansetron (name brand is Zofran but it's cheaper if you get the generic). Dose is 1/4 tablet up to twice a day.

Hopefully the Cerenia will help. He may have developed some IBD. There seems to be some crossover with diabetic kitties and stomach trouble. He could have developed a food sensitivity. It can happen even when a kitty has been eating the same kind of protein for years, kind of like how some humans develop a sensitivity to dairy or wheat even though they used to eat those things without any problems.

Let us know what the lab results are. If there's no obvious culprit when you get the results, you could experiment with different proteins to see if he does better on a different kind. Best of luck over the weekend until he goes back in for labs.

Grandilla's mom (sorry I didn't see your name, lol), You're right about the Cerenia, he's not lethargic, but less active. His tummy settled down after I gave him the pill. I just want to know what's wrong with him so that we can get the proper treatment for him. His BG remains good, it's been a little higher since the vomiting though (stress), but we are watching him closely. :facepalm:
 
I'm glad the Cerenia is working, even if poor Sinny is a little lower in energy. Hang in there, Monday will be here soon so he can get those labs. I'm with Cat Ma: paws are crossed for something simple to be the answer. (I'm Shane, BTW, and my cat is Marshmallow. Granadilla is my user name from way back in the day. Confusing, I know.) Go give Sinbad some kisses and pets for me.
 
The lethargy could be many things but one possible cause could be dehydration. Test for dehydration by pinching at Sinbad's nape. If it stays "tented" up, Sinbad is dehydrated. Alternatively, if his gums feel tacky, that's also a sign of dehydration. Because Sinbad has been/was vomiting, unflavored pedialyte could be helpful till you get him to the vet on Monday.
 
I also agree with giving unflavored Pedialyte. It also may help to settle Sinbad's tummy.

"What" was brought up can help to determine the problem. Has there been any loose stool or diarrhea?

When you have labs run I would suggest having a pancreatitis test. An inflamed pancreatitis can cause vomiting. The last time Squeaker had pancreatitis he presented for the first time with vomiting and his glucose did not go up.
 
Sinbad is eating like a champ and does not vomit during the day. However, approx 3 each morning he is sick. Labs today hopefully and answer and road to recovery is in order!!!:nailbiting: Thank you for asking :cat:
 
They are fed 3 times a day. Last meal is between 6 and 6:30. He's usually vomiting around 3 am. It's always clear said his stomach is empty. Once was absolutely a hair ball
 
I was wondering if that might be the case. It could be due to excess stomach acid irritating Sinny's stomach from fasting so long. You could try changing the feeding schedule so that Sinny doesn't go so long between meals, or you could talk to your vet about maybe giving slippery elm bark (need to watch calcium levels with this) or maybe giving a dose of famotidine at night. I'd also suggest having a chat with your vet about kidney and pancreas problems, if only to rule them out.

Thank u Mogs. I do try to be consistent with feeding times, they seemed to be starving constantly. I even bought an auto feeder. Hate to say this, but other than getting fat, they seemed more normal on dry food. But I know that is extremely unhealthy
 
The auto feeder could be a help here. Maybe reserve some of their evening meal and put it into the timed feeder so that they'll get a snack - maybe about midnight? If Sinny manages to go 9 hours before vomiting, giving him a reasonable-sized snack at midnight would mean he'd only have a maximum 6 hour fast.
 
Sinbad is in relatively good health. Nothing found that would explain the vomiting other than an irritable tummy. We are going to try a few things with the food, but all good for now. Next is to see if any permanent damage from the fracture, but even with that, I am remaining positive. He's bounced back from so much I know he will be fine. ;) Keeping open prayers for all the kitties on here and their moms and dads!!
