? Vomited multiple times, not eating. Took to Er & they found no ketones. Any ideas?

Kitty usually grazes wet food all day/night. I woke up to him vomiting this morning & I believe it's cause he didn't have enough to eat overnight. I fed him & gave him insulin. He ate but then vomited it up soon after. He took a nap, woke up & vomited some more. He kept throwing up a few more times, just foam.

I took him to Er & they gave him nausea meds (cerenia). They checked his ketones & it was normal. I offered him food when we got home, but he still hasn't eaten. He's napping now.

I am used to him vomiting when his BG is too high (& it WAS high this morning, 300), but not him not eating.

His readings today: AMPS 300, +3 280, +7 340 (note how he has not eaten but his +7 is high.)

The Er suggested more tests but it was so expensive that I am going to do it at regular vet.

Any ideas what this could be?

Possibly pancreatitis, could also be related to kidney function. You should ask your regular vet run blood work if you haven’t had it done recently, and if they can test for pancreatitis, hopefully they have a Catalyst One In-House Analyzer, they can add it, and it gives you a number, not just a yes/no like the old SNAP fPL. Vets used to have to send the blood out for a spec fPL to get a diagnosis of pancreatitis.

Hopefully the Cerenia shot will help, it’s supposed to be for 24 hours. If not, as part of your regular vet visit, you may need to ask for more anti nausea meds, either Cerenia or Ondansetron, which target different nausea receptors. I gave both to Mav when he had pancreatitis. You may also need an appy stimulant, like Mirtaz and pain meds like buprenorphine if it is pancreatitis, since that can be painful .
