Hi,

I was wondering how often people are taking their cat(s) to the vet, once they start home testing? My kitty was/is feral and while he's ok when he's at home with me, he needs to be sedated when he goes to the vet. It is not only stressful for all of us, its just super expensive each time also. I had been taking him every two or three years, but it's no longer an option as he gets older. Is there a recommended interval now that he's diabetic?

Jones was going more often because of his IBD, but even with that - we are back up to every 6 months. My CKD cat is on a every 6 month schedule as well. The other two are 1 a year.

Jody,
We fully treat Doc's diabetes at home - we also treated our first diabetic, KT, at home. By testing at home, keeping track of how what dose and food works, feeding him diabetic appropriate low carb wet diet, I know when something needs changed. He goes to the vet only as needed for other issues or concerns.

Since I started home testing, Maury has not been to the Vet either for his FD. Like Lyresa, will only take him to a Vet if I suspect something else has come up :)

since I started testing in July she has not been back. I just email a link to the spreadsheet.

I print out Noah's numbers and curves. In his case there's nothing to see, the printout says it all. Noah is the worst traveler I've had in 30+ years, we wrap in in piddle pads and a beach towel and hope he doesn't have a cardiac on the way. His brother did not need to be crated, opened the front door and he'd jump in the car, then prance across the counter, "Hey everyone, look at me". Nobody likes a showoff!
