Just got back from the Vet Rocky is 9.2 lbs he was 7.5 a month ago. Vet suggested MD diet but said since he's doing good he won't twist my arm about it. Said to bring him back in 3 months for a fructosamine test

If you are home testing, there is really no need for a fructosamine test since your will know Bee's BG average over time. His SS will tell everything the test could

Really i remember him telling at the last visit the test couldn't be done at home that it test the different levels or something

Correct, a fructosamine test can't be done at home but all it tells you is the average over a period of time, I think 2 - 3 weeks. The spreadsheet let's you see the highs and lows :). I mean technically you could just figure out an average number for past two weeks on your own

Regular home testing gives a real time picture of how the insulin is working. Fructosamine tests only give an average of a 2 or 3 week time period. If the numbers have been very low AND very high the fructosamine test could end up showing that the kitty is well regulated when in fact it is not.

Fructosamine Levels vs. Blood Glucose Curves

"Unfortunately, fructosamine levels don’t tell us what is happening to the blood glucose levels after the insulin is given. It doesn’t tell us how long the insulin lasts in that pet nor when it takes effect. For example, if a pet receives an overdose of insulin the blood glucose level goes down initially but the body rebounds by forming glucose in the liver, thereby increasing blood glucose levels for the rest of the day. This phenomenon is called the Somogyi swing. In this situation even though the insulin dose is too high the fructosamine level could still be elevated."

Kudos to you for properly treating Rocky and making him healthier. That is a good weight gain to be proud of. Rocky couldn't have a better parent.
