Hello all!

I am moving to the Raleigh area of North Carolina in the next couple of weeks and am in search of a new vet for my kitty! She hasn't started insulin yet because her past two vets advised me to keep trying to bring her levels down via food. She has been diabetic for almost two months. As you can see looking at her spreadsheet, her levels went from 478 to an average of 250ish during this time on food alone. However, I am beginning to think she may need to start on insulin...

I know it's a long shot but is anyone here from the Raleigh, NC area? I grew up near the area and have a vet that my parents take their animals to, but I'm looking for other options as well so I can talk to a bunch of different vets on their treatment style for diabetic cats.

Thanks!!

See my signature link Vet Interview Topics for some questions to ask.
Also, do a Google search on "veterinarian near [enter your address]" and you'll see what is available in your area..

I will take a look at that site! There are so many vets in that area....I was really hoping that someone on here might be from the area and could give me the names of vets that they really love and think their pets do well with. I've already called several offices and sent emails, but no responses yet.

Thanks again though for the links! And I will definitely use those interview topics in the future.

You might start the e-mail with a subject line of
"Who is looking for a dedicated owner with a diabetic cat?"

And in the body state things like
- must support home glucose testing with an inexpensive human meter (per international feline diabetes expert Dr Rand's research showing that it is acceptable).
- must support feeding over the counter, low carb, canned food such as Fancy Feast Classic pates or Friskies pates per Dr Pierson of Cat Info (http://www.catinfo.org)
- must be comfortable prescribing a long-acting insulin such as ProZinc, Levemir, BCP PZI , or Lantus, not NPH, nor Vetsulin.

Haley - I'm in Raleigh and have been to two different vets since my Tasha was diagnosed. Feel free to send me a message. I'll be out for the next few hours but will reply later this afternoon/evening.
