We are looking for a new vet to manage our diabetic kitty, Nadia. Does anyone have recommendations in the Austin, TX metro area? If not, I'll call around with the interview questions posted here but I wanted to ask first. Might be a long shot. :)

Thanks!

Hi Liz & Welcome!

I'm going to do a post on another FDMB board and try to find you a reliable vet. We have members in Texas. Can you wait a little while?

Unfortunately, I don't live in Austin. I live in North Texas, so I won't be able to help you out here. May I suggest doing a Google search for vets in your area, and then doing another search through the Better Business Bureau for anyone that you come across. Some of them may be registered with the BBB. Those searches may be able to help you with your vet search. Good luck, and welcome!

Thank you so much! Yes I'd say we could wait a bit.

BTW, it's great that you're going to use the interview questions posted here--believe me, you want to find a vet who is well-versed in FDMB, will prescribe one of the good insulins (Lantus, Levemir or PZI) and supports hometesting.

How long has Nadia been diabetic? Is she already receiving insulin? (ETA: I just found your prior listing regarding Nadia)
I put that post up. I'm sure someone will respond :-D

In Google enter this search:
Veterinarian loc: your address

There may be some reviews online too; these are rough indicators, as folks don't post positives as much as they post negatives.

Hi Liz-

I am in Austin. Cannot exactly answer your question regarding a great FD vet (may be an oxymoron) but would be happy to visit with you about our experiences with some local vets and also with this board. Was able to get Hank in remission with some great support here and he's happily remained diet controlled since for over 3 years now. PM me your number and I can give you a call with some advice and maybe help answer some questions if you want to visit.

Betty
