Vet gave Lantus dose at 1pm

Myrtle had her dental today. Her BG was a bit high this morning at 21.1 (379.8) so I dropped her off to the vet and brought her insulin so he could give it to her if he thought it was necessary. For some reason he didn’t give her the insulin until 1pm (dental was done at 3pm). It is now 9pm, she has been eating so her BG will be food influenced. Is it worth testing her BG with food on board? Should I give her more insulin now at 8 hours? Or do I just wait until the morning now?

Thanks for the response Carla. I just checked her BG and it’s just 9.2 (165) even though she ate about an hour ago. She’s at 9 hours post shot now so I think she’ll be okay. I won’t give any more insulin tonight otherwise I’ll have to give her next shot in less than 12 hours too. Her ketones were 0.0 so hopefully she’s safe for tonight. She is fairly traumatised from the procedure so I’m just going to let her rest and give her a bit more food around midnight if she wants it.
