As title suggests ozzy is just skin and bone currently. He's eating about 90g of food a day or whatever he's willing to eat. He looks like an old man but he's only 4.

What can I do to help?

Insulin stats: 2 units prozinc twice daily, dry diabetic cat food.

Unlimited wet pate food. (Except 2 hours prior to the preshot test) The dry is high in carbs, even the diabetic one. When you lower his carb intake to the wet you will want to home test with a meter and probably lower his dose. When his numbers are regulated it will be easier for him to put on weight. Unregulated diabetic cats are literally starving even though they are eating because they don't properly utilize the nutrients.

Now that you've posted on Main, I can give you a couple new member links now :)
There is lots of information on the forum and experienced members who live and breathe feline diabetes! Few things to get you started.
A signature with some basic information about your kitty is helpful when posting and helps those of us with bad memories: http://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/threads/editing-your-signature-profile-and-preferences.130340/
We are very data driven here and highly promote home testing. It is the best tool in caring for our fur babies diabetes. Here is the Spreadsheet we use, all you need is a Google account: http://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/threads/fdmb-spreadsheet-instructions.130337/
And I like to give this to new members; better to be prepared, but I hope you never need it: http://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/threads/how-to-treat-hypos-they-can-kill-print-this-out.15887/

For your actual question, how much should Ozzy weigh? What brand and flavour of food is the roughly 90g he's eating? (So I can look up calories). How long do you leave the food out? I can help give a rough calculation of how many calories you'll want to aim for him to eat to try and gain some weight back. Many of our sugar kitties lost weight prior to diagnosis but while their sugar level (blood glucose) is uncontrolled, their body is literally starving and can't utilize the nutrients properly from the food they eat.

If you need help with anything else, don't be afraid to ask :bighug:.

As stated above, do NOT remove dry food UNTIL you are home testing. It can cause a serious drop in glucose which can result in a hypo episode. But do start giving wet food in addition now if hungry.

Stopping the dry food at the same time insulin was started without me home testing caused a very close call for my cat. I wasn't warned about this at the vet's so it's a good thing you're here!
