Very high numbers - dosing?

We switched Simon from Vetsulin to Lantus a couple of days ago and I am wondering how long before I start to see his numbers drop. He has been averaging over 400 since diagnosis and I am very concerned. Tomorrow I plan to do a curve, but even when I have spot checked him outside of his AMPS and PMPS he's been high. He does have other health issues that are challenging his response to insulin, so perhaps my expectations are unrealistic? Any and all advice would be appreciated!

Hello over here. Make sure you read through the yellow sticky notes, including the one on dosing methods. At one point soon, we will be asking you to choose a dosing method that you want to use.

Hard to say if Simon is high all the time, or just during the day time. He could be going lower at night, like many cats do, and then bouncing during the day. That’s my round about way of saying, please get a preshot test for every cycle, as well as at least one test later in the night cycle. Even a +2 gives us an idea what is happening. Before bed tests are good ones.

The depot takes 5-7 days to build. Plus you went with a lower starting dose. Normally we take dose of the current insulin into consideration. One other fun fact, Lantus, and the depot insulins in general, teach you patience.;)

Thank you! I am trying to read through the yellow sticky notes but when I click on it nothing happens. What could I be doing wrong?

Which one are you clicking on? Click on the name of the Sticky Note. What device are you using? It is working on my iPad.

I just tested him (it's +3) and he was 548. I feel sick to my stomach. He should be going down right now. Should I give him 3 units tomorrow AM?

No increase, you need o give the depot time to build. It is also possible he went lower last night and is now bounce. Hold the dose, gather data, and time will tell. One other thing, could you sniff the injection site to make sure you don’t smell Lantus. That’s the other possibility, along with getting into high carb contraband.

What happens when you select the Sticky Note link?
