Hi,
my diabetic cat is walking slowly, a little off balance. thought she might be hypo but tested her bg twice and it came up "hi" which according to tester is above the 600 max reading level of the device. i give cat one unit in am and one unit in pm. should i give her a unit of insulin? (it's about 5hrs since her am shot)

no, do not give more insulin. that can lead to very serious consequences.

can you tell us if kitty is newly diagnosed? what type of insulin is kitty getting? age of kitty? and any other illnesses or age related problems?

not newly diagnosed. about 6-8months ago. humulin insulin. kitty is about 4 or 5. no other known illnesses.

when was the last time kitty was at the vet? it's possible something else has developed and a vet visit might be in order if it's been more than a month or so since the last visit.

i think her last visit was about 6-8 months ago. not sure. i'm not the actual owner. part time care taker of the cat when owner not around. get she to the vet sounds like the best next step. thx. any other input would be welcome.

i think so too 'cause it's very likely something has reared it's head that might not even be diabetes related.

i too hope others have more ideas as the info and knowledge here is unbelievable and is often helpful as to what questions to ask or what tests to get done, etc....when you do get to the vet

I'd want to get to the vet quickly and check for ketones and also do bloodwork to check electrolytes, as Cindy mentioned, also check for anything else underlying that could be going on.
