Hidey has been OTJ for about 9 months now and I need to take him in to have his skin checked out. I'm thinking he is just having a reaction to the flea bites but to be on the safe side I am calling Monday morning to schedule an appointment, I know he needs to go in for his vaccines as well.

I plan on having a senior blood work up done again so I can get all his numbers to compare with past numbers since last time he went in (April 2014) they said he was showing beginning signs of kidney disease.

What vaccines, and types should I worry about? Which ones would be advised to get? He is strictly indoors, but I do worry about FeLV because theres always that chance of an addition to the family unexpectedly.

Rabies is a must in this state. What type am I looking for?

Blood work....anything additional I should ask them to run?

USG....do you think I can take a sample in and have them run it? They did not do this when they thought he was showing signs of kidney disease. If I can take a sample, how fresh should it be and how large of a sample does it have to be?

I know for the itching around the neck to avoid steroids, anyone know of another option to help with the itching?
Thank you for dealing with my rambling and on going questions.

You want the Merial PureVax rabies vaccine. It is the only one without an adjuvant.

I would also get the
Panleukopenia
+ herpesvirus-1
+ calicivirus
(FPV, FHV-1, FCV)

Just get a senior blood panel. You want it to include thyroid and I think the senior panel does.

For urine specific gravity they only need a couple of ml. You do not need a sterile sample so a free catch at home wold be fine. Just put it in a sealed container and refrigerate it.

Thank you, that info is very helpful especially the USG. I was upset to find out that they didnt do a USG last time when they told me he was showing beginning signs of kidney disease and yet they didnt do that???? Especially looking at his blood work and looking at Tanyas site. I didnt really see the evidence in his blood work. A coupe things were elevated but he was fasting, dehydrated, and his teeth were inflamed with 2 that had to be removed. To be on the safe side I picked a lower phos food that is diabetic friendly and figure I'll have all blood work redone since he has to go in to compare everything.
