UTI's?

What should I be watching for as far as UTI's go? Salem had a urine analysis done three weeks ago when I initially took him to the vet and he had sugar in his urine then, and now I'm noticing that he's straining a bit when peeing? He's still peeing okay even if he's shooting it a little high, but he's always done that. I'll probably call the vet about it Monday morning but do I need to be concerned in the meantime? I've been adding extra water to their food, but I'm concerned about adding too much bc they're both had some really loose poops as well. I just know that cats with diabetes get UTI's easily but I don't know what to look for and how concerned I should be.

Adding extra water to the food won't give them runny poops.....Actually, if they have diarrhea, extra water will help keep them from getting dehydrated. Water coming out "that end" can quickly dehydrate the body.

Watch for signs of straining...going in/out of the box over and over....and possibly yowling due to pain.

Okay I think he's been straining a bit, but I haven't noticed him going in and out a lot. I assume as long as he's still managing to pee he'll be okay through the weekend?

Yeah, as long as he's able to get it out, that's what's important.

If you think it's possible he may have a UTI, you should try to get MORE water into him to help keep him flushed out.

The cure for pollution is dilution.

Okay I'll definitely do that then. I'm working all weekend so I can't keep as close of an eye on him as I'd like but I'll just have to assume he'll be okay. I'm keeping him on the 2U through the weekend like the vet advised since I can't watch him.

If he is straining, in pain and can't go, get him to an emergency ASAP. Neutered male cats can get a blockage that can kill if not taken care of.

He can still go, he's just straining a little bit. He still peed quite a bit. I just don't know how I'm going to monitor that over the weekend since I have two cats and can't tell who used the litterbox unless I watch them.

Okay he just peed again and didn't seem to strain that time. I'll still call the vet on Monday though.

I *LOVE* my $20 Wyze camera: https://www.wyze.com/wyze-cam/

Hook it to your WiFi, configure it to be motion activated, point it at the litterbox, and every time it is triggered it will record a 12 second video clip and text it to you! Might not help for this weekend, but I've used it for a ton of kitty-related spying like this. You can also tap into the camera from your phone and just get a live streaming video.

I did read in a Wyze community that Wyze was now available from Home Depot stores, but I cannot confirm that personally.
