We just got home from the vet and Comet has a UTI and the vet thinks he is in stage two of renal disease. She also felt a lump in his abdomen but we are going in on Monday for an X-ray. We just moved back home and as I previously mentioned Comet has been trying to eat the others kitties dry food. That has subsided slightly but the vet gave us some Purina DM dry food so he has a lower carb option if he doesn't stop. Does anyone have experience with renal disease the vet said that high protein can make it worse but that the diabetes is the more pertinent thing to treat so we have to keep his diet. This is all so sudden and financially and emotionally draining.

If he's only stage 2 is more important that the food is low phosphorus rather than low protien. So look for a food under 10 percent carb and under 250 phosphorus. If you have a copy of the labs could you post them?

I will be getting them when I go in for his X-ray Monday and will post them then. Also thank you for the numbers on phosphorus I was so lost with what “low phosphorus” was considered

If your cats phosphorus is really high, under 200 is even better. Diet makes a big difference
