Am looking for assistance. My sister's cat has had a UTI infraction for 6 weeks. Now in emergency hospital.

They supposedly unblocked his UTI and now kidney are functioning better (?).

I know how this group help me and Jack the Cat get into diabetic remission with diet change, I am seeking help with all the great people on this site to direct me to maybe another group that deals with cats and kidney issues as well as the proper foods to feed cats with kidney issues that do not involve prescription food from vets. And if prescription food is the best answer, that's ok, just would like to know.

Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

Most grateful...

More reading than you ever wanted! https://felinecrf.org/

It sounds like perhaps acute kidney injury, maybe not chronic kidney disease. Hard to say without knowing more or having lots of lab info.

So it sounds like she had a blockage AND a UTI? If she had the UTI that long I suspect they gave wrong antibiotic, or it was resistant to what they gave. Did they culture the bacteria to determine what antibiotic? Have they tried different ones?

I recently (today ha) learned the the prescription urinary foods actually aren't too bad to give post-blockage, short term (2 weeks). But plenty of people give them the rest of the cat's life (I personally think unnecessary, but I am no vet or nutritionist). Just the wet urinary foods obviously, not dry. They supposedly have less things that can contribute to blockages, and the SO in there helps to dissolve blockages/crystals.

If you have any labs those would be immensely helpful
