Our civvie cat Julia was diagnosed with a UTI (infection not inflammation) a few weeks ago. She went to the vet after deciding her litter box wasn't the place to go. They did the full test where they extract urine with a sterile needle (but I forgot the name of the test) and there was bacteria found. She took her antibiotics (Clavamox - no shots of Convenia as I have heard about the effects). However, she occasionally still urinated in places other than the litter box. The vet believed she has cystitis too, which, is possible since we have had a lot of stress around here lately. We took Julia back to the vet for blood work for everything under the sun, and a physical. The only thing showing up in the blood work was slightly high kidney numbers which the vet wasn't concerned with since they could be from dehydration since Julia had been feeling poorly. She didn't feel any masses, and her heart and lungs were fine. Gums were pink. Julia's appetite is fine (usually 3-4 cans of Fancy Feast each day) and her weight is holding steady. She prescribed bupe in premeasured syringes for a week to get Julia over the hump with this inflammation. They seem to have worked as she's back to using the box but it appears the shots upset her stomach and give her diarrhea and gas. I have never heard a cat fart so much...or ever in my life. So, my question is, what should we do regarding pain meds for Julia. She's better on them as far as using the box, up and around more, and such. But I don't want her miserable on this medication. Would another medication suffice? Any advice is appreciated.
