Using U-40 in place of U-100?

A couple of weeks ago I ordered a refill of the U-100 insulin from VPA. It was on back-order and expected to ship this week. Now I've called them and they have no idea when it is coming in. They actually referred me to BCP to get it.

They do have the U-40 in stock. I know that you can use the U-40 with U-100 syringes if you use the conversion chart, but is it otherwise the same as the U-100, i.e. as long as I use the correct conversion amount it will act just the same as the U-100? Or is it like starting a whole new insulin?

Is PZI always this hard to get? This whole thing is stressful enough without worrying about where my next bottle of insulin is going to come from...!

U40 should be fine if you use the conversion chart.

I think the BCP can be harder to find as it is a compounded insulin and only done in a few places. The standard ProZinc is available in most vet offices.

There have been discussions here that BCP works better than ProZinc and then that is doesn't, as the compounding can vary batch to batch. No definitive answers though. Probably one of those darn ECID things.
