how many of us mainly use 1 ear to get blood? Been 3.5 years now and i almost just have to look at it
and get blood-the other ear much more difficult...
any risks in using the same ear ?

I alternate ears but with my Grey Ghost, I uses one ear since he had a hematoma on one ear. I do find that usually one ear bleeds easier than the other.

Bob is definitely "left eared" and I only used his right ear when I didn't like the number I got from the left ear. :-D When I first started testing, I alternated ears, but I had a lot more success with the left ear in terms of getting blood on the 1st try.

My poor old Lee has a great gouge taken out of his right ear that makes it hard to find a good spot to poke so we mainly go for the left. It doesn't matter where we stick him, he hates it anyway.

I prefer Scooter's right ear and the boyfriend prefers the left, so we alternate :P But using the same ear is fine!

I've always used the right ear to get blood. I'm right handed so it's easier for me to hold the right ear with my left hand and do the poke with my right hand and fiddle with the bg meter.

I use both and try to alternate, but the right side does get used more in the middle of the night

I use left ear for Junior, right ear does not like to bleed.

and left side is easier for me, and he also likes me to sit on his right side, stroke him a few times, kiss his head and poke, very picky he is.

Thanks for asking the question and all the replies as I have success with just the right ear. I have only been testing for a short amount of time & I try the left but haven't had any luck. Probably going to stick with the right ear and try the left from time-to-time.

I usually use the left ear later in the night/earlier in the morning because she likes to sleep on her right side. I figure it's best not to disturb her until I call for breakfast, or to just let her sleep the night.

I've used Bertie's right ear for five and a half years! (Tried the left but for some reason the right ear is easier...). After all that time a teeny bit of scar tissue has built up near the top edge of his ear but that's all.
