hi there!!!! it has been too long. how the heck are you? glad to see Bella has been in remission for three years.
not sure if you knew I lost Garth in Jan to cancer he was off the juice for 4 yrs damn cancer. then my Chachi his buddy in May. its been devastating here. anyway I have Sophie my only kitty with uti and crystal issues I feed her wellness core. she likes both wet and dry, they are no grain, wheat gluten free ect... she has been doing great. Garth also had uti problems and blockage he ate cd for 12 yrs then became diabetic he ate wellness chicken and turkey canned. then we added NF for kidneys never affected his numbers. hope this helps!

really depends on how sensitive your kitty is. Eli went on plain ol canned food (I wasn't picky) after he blocked and did just fine. Jack went on low carb canned food (and Eli did at the same time) and but he blocked. Jack only does not have issues when he is on NO carb food, which is so sad for him because he is a carb fiend - he eats through backs of wheat and corn based cat litter to eat the litter..

Start with your basic diabetic kitty friendly diet and see how it goes.

Hi Connie, When you say that Jack blocked, did he completely block where you had to take him to the emergency vet, or your vet immediately if they were open?

I think folks here need to know how serious it is when cats BLOCK, and that it is usually always an emergency situation. Was your vet able to get Jack unblocked easily?

This urinary blockage issue comes up quite a bit, and I have had three cats with Interstitial or Idiopathic Cystitis, and two that blocked totally. Rudder in 1998 and he had to have emergency surgery at the age of 3.

Proto totally blocked last August 8, 2009, and I rushed him to the vet's on a Saturday and he was blocked totally and she could not save him. I had to have her put him to sleep at the age of 5 years old and I was devastated losing him so quickly. He was under treatment for 10 months for this disease, but from the time he was a kitten, he had urinary problems, but they didn't become really serious until 2008.

I think folks need to know that messing around with this disease is quite dangerous, and if a cat has a urinary blockage, it needs to be seen ASAP by an ER vet or the regular vet if they are open.

Cats with Interstitial Cystitis are usually in a lot of pain also, and the owners should ask their vet for pain meds like Buprenex for when the cats have a flare up. But, when the cat is not peeing at all, it is truly an emergency situation.
