new to this. I used a urine test strip and it was the darkest brown on the bottle. Im not sure this compares to blood sugar testing. but I cant find anything that mentions anything of how to compare the numbers to what it would be equal to on a blood test.

im sure the sugar is too high. just not sure what the number would be. he is on a med twice a day. apparently it isnt working? if the sugar is this high on a urine strip. anyone have advice on this. The vet isnt in until tomorrow morning confused_cat

The "urine test strip" that you're referring to... is it a KETONE test strip? If so, the dark brown is a dangerously high level of ketones, and he should be seen immediately. I just picked up a new bottle an hour ago, and the instructions in the box/bottle said if you see moderate or above, to see your doctor immediately!!! When Grayson registered moderate one week ago, I was on the phone 4x overnight w/ ER vets, and in to see mine first thing in the morning. I'm STILL watching him like a hawk!!!

The ketones can be dangerous. Please verify what is on the bottle.

My bottle does! That's why I asked.

Here's the scale for the Nipro Diagnostics ketone test strips from Walgreens:

mustard colored 0 = negative
flesh colored 5 = trace
pinkish 15 = small
deep rose 40 = moderate
~ marroon 80 to dark brown 160 = large
