Urine glucose testing vs blood testing

Hi all

As many of you know, I am not able to test Gem's blood right now (though I'm hoping to restart if the skin continues to heal up). I try and test with keto-diastix as much as possible. One question on that - how does that number compare to the number we would see on a glucometer? I know it's not as accurate, and represents an average over some time. But the specific numbers? Like if the dip stick shows that highest concentration, the bottle says 2000+ or something like that. What does that number mean compared to let's say in the 400s on a glucometer? It's not possible that her BG is 2000, right??

Any help on the correlation of those numbers would be great, thanks so much!

Thanks, that was helpful, especially where it says no meaningful conversion from urine glucose to blood glucose can be made. One thing that gives me pause - it says old urine samples can give false negatives for ketones. Since I am testing urine samples from the floor, I have no idea how old they are. What other signs would be present if there were ketones present?

Her breath might smell like nail polish remover - acetone, a type of ketone.

Sometimes when a cat has ketones, their eyes will look glassy but not always, as not all cats with ketones get the acetone smelling breath. Ketones can be dangerous especially if the cat stops eating.

Thanks you guys, I'll just keep watching her like a hawk, like always! I get a laugh when I read that letter from your cat, so spot on :) But what else can we do?!
