Hubby just got laid off because of Covid-19 and the State of Illinois "stay at home" order. Up until now the company was paying him his reg. pay while the factory was shut down. Now he just got a notice saying "temp laid off".
I have 20+ rescued cats. Several are special needs which is costly..I can't skimp on the meds. I need advice on what cheap dry food to feed the cats that DON'T have diabetes. And yes, I know dry is bad..but can't afford ALL canned food diet to that many cats and the majority of them won't eat canned period. A brand that won't kill them.
I figured I'd ask the SMARTEST AND KINDEST people on the PLANET for advice

He just got laid off today, he filled out the online app and it'll about a week until we know if he gets it. He should..since the whole factory is shut down. Not worried about if he gets it. But it could be 3wks until we get the first check. And we are already broke. And until we know for sure and see the unemployment check AND the $600 stimulus I have to cut waaaay back now. Calling all the utility companies and the bank for the mortgage, cell phones...and a bunch of other misc. bills tomorrow.

And until we know for sure and see the unemployment check AND the $600 stimulus

Just an FYI...the way I understand it, the unemployment will be paying an extra $600 but if there's just the 2 of you (no human children), you should get $2400 in stimulus on top of the unemployment...$1200 per adult (now I can't give you any idea when that will happen! They say if you filed taxes for 2018 or 2019 and gave direct deposit info, you'll get it sooner)

In the meantime, DCIN may be able to help you with food. Sent you a PM on Facebook.

Best ideas for cheap dry food for your non-diabetic cats would be a store brand at your local grocery store. Bigger bags are cheaper. Mostly fillers like corn, soybean and wheat, so there may be some digestive upsets among your kitties.

Walmart carries their "Special Kitty" brand. 35# for $18.98, so 54 cents per pound.

Try Costco, or Sam's Club or BJ's Wholesale if you are a member. But, they may be out of stock.
Purina Kit & Kaboodle was 38# for $19.98 so 53 cents per pound. At Sam's Club.
Costco was out of stock on all dry cat food.
BJ's was more expensive.
Try a local feed store.

Try Tractor Supply Company. Multi-cat Dry Cat Food 40# for $18.49 so 46 cents per pound.

Those were the 3 best prices I could find with a quick search.

Jacque :bighug: Sorry to hear that Kevin has been laid off. Hope the unemployment comes through for you soon. What I really want to say isn't printable. **&#$$^&*((*#!!!

Ya it's the Federal Government for the stimulus and who knows when that will come. They say one thing and do another. And thank you sooo much, I need to cover all my bases just in case. Only have one check right now it's under $700 and that has to last us until unemployment or stimulus comes in.

Shoot I miswrote this...I meant the $600 that the feds said will give everyone that is on unemployment...not the stimulus sometimes my brain goes faster than my fingers or my fingers just totally type something else...lol, thanks for pointing that out to me @Chris & China (GA)
