Hello all!
Gator suggested that I might post this information here in the PZI forum.
I ordered and recieved a vial of compunded 40u beef PZI from BCP in Texas. Their price agreed with what is posted on this site at the moment;
direct to me, it cost $44 for the 10 ml vial, and $13.50 for overnight shipping to a residence ( shipping to a business adress is a couple of dollars less). They overnight their insulin via UPS, packed with an ice pack to keep it cool (though the vial I received had dropped out of the ice inside the envelope, but it was still coolish). They do require a prescription from a veterinarian before they will discuss pricing or send the insulin; my vey has a great vet tech who handled that for me, then I called BCP and gave them mu information.
Both the representative I had previously spoken to at BCP and the little pamphlet they enclosed with the insulin gave me information of the temperature tolerances of their product. Here is what the panphlet says:
"Insulin Stability Out of Refridgerator: BCP PZI Bovine Insulin has been shown to have less than 2% bological potency loss after storage at 98.6 degrees F for 12 days and 113 degrees F for 2 days."
I do not know if this agrees with other research out there, but this is what they said. Also included was a diagram of mixing and storage instructios; I will scan that and post it asap.
The company was helpful, friendly, and got the insuiln to me in a timely manner (even though UPS delivers very LATE in the evening in my area. Grrr.)
Hope this helps someone!
