Update: Sprocket

Update: 2nd night in hospital. He is eating now but they gave him 3.5 units for 2 doses plus 1 unit of fast acting insulin in 15 hours which caused him to go down to 75-90 during day & 56 at 6pm. They gave him some dextrose then at 8pm he was 200. (Pet meter) sat 6am he was 415. They gave him 3.5 units. Waiting in more info of his ketones & bg for daytime. Vet got some education on her DM dry that she is pushing& diabetes today. Hope she learns well. She learned about how carbs really do alter bg #'s & about Young Again Zero if ya gotta do some dry(temporary). Plus they gave him the appetite stim that he wasn't on that doesn't work for him so he ate little. Hope it works.
Wondering his bg will probably go down when he gets home cause he will be eating through out day but his low carb food.
With insulin being slow acting will it cause his numbers to go low again?

Glad to get the update on Sprocket, though it sounds kind of up and down over there. Yikes.

If Sprocket ever does go low when he's home, there's a lot you can do to bring the numbers up with food, but it's a nerve-wracking situation to be in, so read through these links and get all the materials together to prepare ahead of time! A lot of the members here, particularly those on the Lantus side of things, are extremely experienced at doing this, and can guide you through low numbers, advising you when to feed high carb, when to feed honey/Karo syrup, and when to just drop everything and get to the ER (hopefully not, but better than the alternative when a cat goes extremely low).

Thank you. Just called. He has been in 300s all day. He is eating but not alot. They said to visit at 6pm & then she will decide to keep him one more night or continue curve at home. Why would he stay in 300s if he is not eating alot?

Yes, "vet stress" can cause elevated levels of bg, sometimes as much or more than 100 points above what it would be at home.

I tested Leo right before I had to take him to the ER for projectile vomiting and he tested 30 points higher at hospital. He hadn't had any insulin and he had thrown up his food so the variables should have been pretty much the same except for the stress. I know for a fact the stress makes a difference for my kitty and his BG levels.
