I would like to thank everyone who replied to my first thread here, and to the board in general. The information found here is priceless. While I haven't posted much, I have been trying to read a little each day to better understand how best to deal with Spooky's diabetes.
As you can tell by Spook's SS, we have missed a few days with the testing, as well as only testing once a day. He is still a two person job when testing. I told my husband we will have to start with twice a day and try to work our way up so that by Sunday, his first curve day, he will hopefully be a little more relaxed.
He was back up in the upper 300's this morning after a few days in the 200's, and threw up all over the place after eating. I'm sure the vomiting was due to him becoming too hungry and the Merrick BG salmon being too rich for him.
My husband wanted to wait and try to feed him again. I decided to call the vet "just in case". I was advised pretty much the same thing my husband had said. Part of me felt stupid for calling, but another part of me felt "better safe than sorry".
After making (and running out of) some cat food ice cubes, I looked around the site and read someone mixed chicken with the cat food and water. I also read people use muffin tins to freeze the food. This seemed like an even better idea than ice cubes as Spooky is a 'big boy' and eats more normally anyway than Voodoo or BearBear, and it would seem to me the muffin shaped food would take a little longer to thaw.
Also read where Dr. Lisa suggested 'half cooking' the chicken if you're not comfortable with 100% raw. While I would love to convert the Cat Crew to 100% raw, this is not going to happen anytime soon. They do, however, adore Stella's & Chewy's, so maybe there is hope.
I blended the chicken, a big can of Evo 95% chicken & turkey, and water together in the good old Ninja and let Spooky have a little taste. He approved.
Not sure why I've written this long, rambling post. I guess I just need a little reassurance. I'm so scared I will miss something, or not do something, or do something I'm not supposed to.
