Update on Sheba

Sheba is doing really well on no dry and fancy feast only her glucose is down from 400 to between 250 and 130. She has stopped urinating soo much and seems to be doing much better. HOWEVER, She seems to be hungry all the time. I have been giving her a can on fancy feast 1 in morning 1 in afternoon and 1 in evening. Vet says that is enough food for her. She started out weight 13 lbs and is down to 12 now. For a 12lb cat is three cans a day not enough or too much? I just don't want to starve her to death but I like the little bit of weight loss and she seems much more sprie than before. Please advise and thank you in advance.

You can then use this formula from Dr. Lisa's website on feline nutrition to calculate how many calories per day Sheba should be getting:

Required calories per day = [13.6 X optimal lean body weight in pounds] + 70

Unregulated diabetics tend to be hungry as their bodies are not using their food efficiently. You might try adding 1/2 can midcycle. It also helps to add warm water to the food; most cats like the "gravy" and it seems like more food. Once her numbers are consistently lower, she will probably be less hungry.
