I think my boy, Salem, is on his way to remission after 6 weeks of being on Lantus. We haven't given him a shot in 6 days :) we check his level each day & they are always lower than 100. He's gaining some of the weight back. He's eating FF and will continue to, as well as the Young Again Zero Carb dry. I'm so happy this has happened and that it continues. I will not give him any other dry food other than YA. I feel this has helped him out. We have a vet apptmt (a new vet) on Sat to check his lip ulcer which I believe is a rodent ulcer which could be from allergies. It's healing but it still looks bad. Hoping we can clear that up and get him to his 15th birthday in October.. Fingers crossed :)

Hi Sheila,

Yes, it does look like Salem could be headed for remission (fingers crossed/anti-jinx). :cat:
If a kitty remains in normal numbers for 14 days we consider him to be officially 'off the juice'.

Sometimes it doesn't happen at the first attempt; the numbers can creep up a tad and then tiny doses of insulin may be needed to support the pancreas and inch the numbers down. So don't lose heart if that happens.

Feeding small mini-meals/snacks at intervals can stimulate the pancreas to work without overloading it with too much to do at any one time.

Will be watching Salem's progress.

Good luck, Sheila!
C'mon, Salem; you can do it! :bighug:
