Rocky is doing well today, BGs improving from yesterday.
All his tests are PERFECT!
So his diagnosis is FLUTD (Feline Lower Urinary Tract Disease or FIC (Feline Idiopathic Cystitis).
Symptoms are: irritability, frequent trips to litter box, pain and difficulty urinating, urinating in inappropriate places, over-grooming especially in genital area.
Treatment is only painkillers.
A lot has to be changed (if possible) in the cats environment as stress is a contributing factor but first of all diet is main consideration as cats who eat dry kibble are really at risk, only wet food is allowed and lots of water.
My vet suggested a supplement of Cytoplan which helps with inflammation in the bladder and she also does acupuncture and laser therapy for arthritis.
I would like to thank some people here who helped me so much in this difficult and frustrating journey of FD:
@Elizabeth and Bertie, @Critter Mom, @Diana&Tom , @BJM, @Marje and Gracie, @Squeaky and KT, @Sue and Oliver (GA), @Dr Schrodinger and of course my sister Elizabeth @elizabeth and gus who helped me few times with Rocky's hypo and supported me throughout.
There are others as well who encouraged me and listened to my outbursts of frustration.
You are all wonderful and I'll still need your knowledge and support to look after Rocky.

Well that sounds a really positive outcome, Marlena, I hope you're pleased with it and that it's put your mind at rest. I am positive that you're more than capable of doing whatever is necessary to make Rocky comfortable. You are a super-efficient cat mum
Well done to everyone who has given Marlena advice. I myself am next to useless but am always happy to add my little bit of support for people like Marlena who have such a great attitude as well as being 100% committed to the welfare of their furbabies.
Very well done to you Marlena! Rocky is lucky to have you!
Hugs
Diana xx

Diana,
thanks!
Yes, I feel a bit calmer now and know what to do. You know my passion for holistic care so I'm sure sooner or later I'll find the right supplement for Rocky.
But my vet .... God, it shocked me a bit when she said she will do acupuncture for Rocky's bladder and she could do laser therapy for his arthritis, how cool is that! Music to my very holistic ears!
My vets are so good now that I'm going to write a very positive feedback on their website. Not only they look after Rocky so well, they often consult me on the phone and always ring when they say they would and there is a lady there who deals with my insurance company so I don't have to do anything and pay anything as the payment goes directly to the vet's. When I was using a human meter my vets suggested that she lent me AlphaTrak and I was using it for good few months and nobody chased me for payment (it was a new kit)! In the end I liked it so I paid for it and insurance covered that.
Diana, you're right, Rocky is lucky to have me but he also helped himself by being a wonderful cat. He is so good at the vet's, I had no problem whatsoever with testing, injecting, cutting his claws, eating absolutely anything put in front of him, just really really good pussy cat and so gorgeous! When he looks at me with his blue eyes I basically melt.
Diana, I always enjoyed and still do your words of wisdom and appreciate your calm attitude.

Hi Marlena,

My cat, Teasel, is prone to bouts of idioathic cystitis and I've treated him with pain meds and occasionally an antispasmodic for urethra spasms. His episodes come and go and seem to manifest the same whether he's treated or not. Some episodes I've merely watched him for signs of blockage and, so long as he was urinating, let it run its course. He uses a litter box so I've often seen blood-stained urine in/near the box or in my bathtub. That's when I know something is brewing - urinating in the tub. I'm so accustomed to dealing with this that I no longer panic, just do the watch and wait thing.

Where is that Marlena? I've seen a couple,of UK newbies on Facebook but not here I don't think. I'll have a look although it may be tomorrow now...,Had a long hard day.
It's on the Feline Health - Honeybun and mum's name is Rachel. She lives in Norfolk so not that far from me.

Hi Marlena!

Great to see you back in FDMB! It's also wonderful to hear Rocky is doing so wonderful.

Big hugs to you both!
Thank you dear Marje.
I haven't been away from FDMB.
Lovely to see you again and did I ever tell you how much I love your kitty's picture - that tiara on this sweet face, marvellous!
