Hi everyone!

I haven't been on here in a long time but I wanted to offer an update, since so many of you were so helpful to me last summer when our cat Mr. Pinkleton was first diagnosed with diabetes. We really went through an emotional roller coaster and he really nearly died. His back legs were nearly completely useless and his front legs even started collapsing, to the point where he could only take a couple steps at a time. He was skin and bones.

He is doing so much better now. He is on Prozinc and we test his blood daily, which is so key to the success of your cat (in case anyone new is reading this!). He is also now on the Purina DM Savory Selects food, and this has made a huge difference. We held off on changing his food since he was so allergic to everything and was on a special venison diet, but we felt we had no choice but to give it a try. He was originally on 5 units of Prozinc, and now he is on just 0.5 units! His numbers are typically in the low 200s (though he does still sometimes climb to 400). In the past three weeks, his legs have made incredible improvements. He is able to jump up on the couch and walk around quite normally now -- not back to full strength, but getting there! We really never thought this day would come, so it's very exciting to see!

Do you think that we could see him get off of insulin altogether eventually, since he is getting down to such a small dose? Has anyone seen this happen?

Thanks again for all of the support and guidance! Mr. Pinkleton thanks you!
Jessica

Wow! Congratulations to you and Mr Pinkleton! I am new to the forum but I can see that its an uphill battle for the diabetes however its something we are dealt, but your love and devotion I am sure is why he has come this far!
