Much happier with our old/new vet. (she moved her offices a few years ago and because she was so far we gave up seeing her), but now I will travel with a car full of screaming kids and meowing cats to see her. She was very receptive to my starting at a lower dose than the 2u. She had a couple of print outs about when to drop the dosage and I haven't quite looked at them yet, but will study them and see how close they are to my opinion and the opinions reflected on the Lantus board.

I tested Guiness before we left the house for the vet's office and he was at a 348, when we got to the vet she tested him with her AlphaTrak monitor and he was a 371, I immediately tested him with my Walmart Reli-on that I have been using forever and he was a 314. Our numbers were not too far off from each other. I knew her's would be higher, but I'm happy mine was in the same vacinity. She let me leave without pushing the AlphaTrak. More points for the new vet.

He got his full panel and she checked his teeth and said they didn't look too bad (he will have his full dental next week probably pending his blood work). She did mention a slightly enlarged heart (on an xray) and possibly smaller than normal kidneys. She wanted to see what comes back with the blood work before she makes any sweeping statements about them.

She seemed impressed and amazed at my chart of his progress from a year or so ago and wasn't threatened at all. Yeah! I gave him his 1u shot before I left the office and will test him again at +3 and +6 to start his new curves. Thank you all for your encouragement and help. We will be posting more over in Lantus land starting this evening.

This place is the best!!

Dearest Linda, and, of course, you too, sweet Guinness,

Sounds like your "new-ish" vet is a keeper!

And, hearty congratulations on a safe, albeit loud, road trip!

Here's hoping Guinness aces his blood panel and the dental will return him to The Falls...

Much love and our countless encouraging hugs for you both,
Deb and Nikki -- and, Giz, forever dancing in my heart...

PS: And, you were nervous... Moms... Sheesh... ;o)
