Hi Gang,
I have been slow to report on Franky as I wanted to be sure of his status. He has been off insulin since 6/9. I check him every few days and his blood readings are still in the normal range. I thank everyone on the Forum for all the info I received. I would like to share what I had learned and applied to Franky. No dry food period. When we first started this back in December, I was checking his blood twice a day and adjusting the insulin as needed. I had to force feed Franky for about 5 days in order to get him to eat the canned food, when we first started this, as he was addicted to the dry. Now he eats it freely. He is still on R/D wet but doing so well I am reluctant to change it right now. I used the FreeStyle Lite monitoring system to check his blood. Because the monitoring systems (without the test strips ) are cheap, I have two so I can also check for accuracy against each other. The insulin I used was Lantus. I am fortunate in that Franky had allowed me to force feed him when it was necessary and he does not mind when I check his blood.
I feel very lucky that Franky has responded so well. I will check back later to let you know if he is still in remission.
