**Update Lump on side of Jaw

nailbite_smile Sadi still has the lump on the side of her jaw, I can feel it definitely am taking her back to the vet tomorrow. We went 15 days ago, no cancer was detected, no fever, but a slight elevation of white blood cells. Vet couldn't determine what it was - lanced it but it was solid - nothing inside :?

A few days on pain meds & a round of antibiotics & still present. Eating, activity, everything is completely normal. I only found it because I was petting her.
We go back tomorrow & they will do an xray... any other ideas? I need to help her & don't know how to determine what it is if the vet can't either.

Could be a benign tumor.

Were any x-rays or ultrasounds taken? That could give some clues.

While you wait to get a diagnosis, keep track of the size, any evidence of pain, or color changes on a daily basis. Report changes to the vet.

Hi Nicole, and, of course, you too, Sadi,

I discovered a lump/bump on Giz's cheek. Immediately went to the ER hospital where I realized they were more nuts than me. It had to do with all the warning labels on the front of Giz's chart... It's entirely possible that some warning labels were necessary...

So, like a 5-year-old vet came in and asked me to describe the lump/bump on Gizzie's cheek. I said, I just paid like a zillion dollars to walk in the door. Why don't you feel her lump/bump? He actually looked like he'd rather walk unescorted in downtown Baghdad at night. So, I described her lump/bump as being soft and kind of mushy. Then I grabbed his 5-year-old finger and let him feel her lump/bump. He was aghast! Not because of her lump/bump. Because he was so afraid of her. He suggested I return during normal appointment hours.

I want you to truly understand, Nicole, I am not a vet basher!

We did go back during normal appointment hours. We got an appointment with Giz's ER vet who saw her through DKA. We love this vet! She seemed to feel it necessary to explain to me that whatever was going on with Giz's lump/bump was near her brain and there would be a time consideration. She told me I'd need to be prepared to make a decision quickly.

I took Giz to her regular vet next. He simply aspirated the lump/bump and said it's a cyst. Said it will probably come and go. And, yes, it came and went. He treated Giz since she was a tiny kitten. He wasn't afraid of her. And Giz and I continued dancing for two more years!

I only found the lump/bump because I was petting Giz.

I honestly don't know what to tell you, Nicole. It could be nothing. It could be something. Just embrace each and every day with Sadi!

Please know we will be saying it's nothing thoughts and prayers.

Thank you both for your ideas & thoughts.. I am focusing on her behavior/appetite being normal..weight & blood work too, before I start freaking out.. just feel bad for her. We go tomorrow & an xray will be done.

I think you have a great plan!

We all feel bad when our furries are sick. I have no clue why God, in his infinite wisdom, did not teach cats and dogs to speak English. Or whatever native tongue works. Nikki has definitely learned to say "NOW!" when she's hungry. She also completely understands it when I say, "Good job!" when she cleans her bowl. I have to go now as I have just expressed "Good job!"

Please know we're thinking only good thoughts and prayers for you and Sadi. Please know we'll be looking for your updates. Please know you will never be alone should you feel the need to freak out.

I really have to go now. Nikki is head butting my leg. She is strong for a short cat. It probably involves physics or something I don't understand.

Thanks, Deb.. I am super scared to hear less than the best news.. but am brave for my FURever furbaby.. I thank you for your kind words & support.

Just an update.. still do not know what it is.. xray did not show anything abnormal.. vet took a sample.. it appears it is blood in the lump.. she sent it off to the lab for her own curiousity.. could be up to a week or more until I know what they say.. nailbite_smile
Appetite & activity still normal..

Maybe its just the equivalent of a hemangioma - a benign overgrowth of blood vessels.
 
Hi all, I just wanted to update everyone.. Sadi's large lump ended up being an abscess! Absolutely blessed..
It took 3-4 weeks & one day it just started draining.. cytology results arrived back from the lab about the same time & confirmed nothing unusual.. just an abscess :mrgreen:
