I am going to be taking Chicken Little in to the vet tomorrow morning and I am preparing in advance.
I have suspected that she is having Kidney Failure and now I suspect that she either has Pancreatic problems or Liver problems or all three. Her poop this past week has been gray and she is only pooping every other day.
Looking back now, I think that one day this past week she was in pain because she started meowing a lot. At the time I just thought she was hungry or wanted attention but now I think it was pain.
Long story short I'm going to get her checked for all three. If she has to have any pain medication I was wondering what the best one is for a diabetic kitty?
Thanks bunches

Re: Advice with pain medication

Thank you for the links. Very helpful information. I've been reading all the info about both issues that I can get my hands on. The more I read the more I KNOW that she has both problems.
Outcome does not look very good for her. She is old and is overweight and has problems reaching her backside so I have to help her clean her bottom and she cant hardly walk on her back legs because of diabetic neuropathy.
Zobaline has done little for her but I continue to give it to her anyway.
For a few months now I've been preparing myself for the inevitable but how can you really prepare yourself?? I've actually been hoping that she would just go to sleep and not wake up and take it all out of my hands but alas, that is not going to happen and of course, I cant let her suffer. It just breaks my heart to see her wobbling and waddling around trying to walk.
I'm hoping for the best and trying to prepare myself for the worst.
Sue, I'll let you know what the vet says when I get back home.

Re: Advice with pain medication

Sometimes renal impairment screws up the electrolytes. This can make it difficult for the muscles to work, too. Id, it may not be just diabetic neuropathy. Fingers crossed for you.

Re: Advice with pain medication

Terri I am sending tons of healing green light your way. You can't prepare yourself really. When I had to let my girl go, I just remembered Sue telling me that whatever decision I made was the right one because it was made from love. Honestly those words were all that got me through it. I hope they help you no matter what.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it's something that can be easily handled with some meds. Crazy week at work but I'll check in later today to see how you both are.

Re: Advice with pain medication

The tons of healing green light worked!! I cant thank you enough!!!! I am back home with Chicken Little. The test showed NO Kidney issues!! I am sooo glad that I was wrong about that!! My vet is limited to the test he can do for Pancreatic problems however the test showed Liver problems. I'm home with Orbax (??) and a pill called Denosyl and Hills Prescription L/D food. I did not want the food but until I do some research on food that is good for diabetics as well as liver problems I had no choice but to take it. I did not want to have to give her Orbax either and I don't know what that would have to do with issues in the Liver but I took it also. I figure its better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.
Chicken Little is a mess, for a cat with constipation she sure can let it fly when she is scared! I'm going to get her cleaned up and then start finding out everything that I can about the Liver. At least now I have some hope that she can get to feeling better.
Thanks so very much!! :dizcat

I am so glad the news is better than you thought, Terri. Maybe go on Health and ask for Liver resources (I don't know any like Tanya's site) and about the meds you were given?
