Sumo seems much better! He is walking much better and seems less depressed. Day 5 of only canned food for Sumo and the other fat one Misty. On the other hand the meowing is getting out of hand. I try not to feed them when they are throwing a tantrum but Sumo cannot go more than 4-5 hours without food so at nigh I cave in and give him some so I can sleep. The little bugger does not like it when the food is a couple hours old and has dried a bit. He is ravenous but is plumping back up. His numbers are down and yesterday he never went above 20 mmol and the lowest was 16 mmol, better than 31+ he was getting last week.
Misty was reading 14 to 18 last week and now for 2 days she has not gone over 5.2! Did the diet change nip the problem in the butt? Is she pre-diabetic? Do you guys think she will stay at these numbers? She is on a weight loss program and to my amazement still loves to play at 16 years old. She really likes a new wand we got and is adorable when trying to run but sad at the same time. I should have taken her weight more seriously.
Our dog takes progut plus powder and I was wondering if this could contain carbs and if it was safe for the fat kitties. Sumo is still having mild digestives upsets and the progut helps but I am concerned because the site said prebiotics are a natural source of carbs.
Water intake is way way down. Instead of two big bowls a day it has not gone down much in two days. I still clean it out once a day but I'm thinking of putting a smaller bowl. Pee balls in the litter are much smaller as well and poops are tiny.
I almost wish any other cat was diabetic because they are so easy to test. Sumo is being bad and is supprising me with his behavior when testing. He is such a big lovable goof but does not like being restrained in any way even with cuddles and treats. He is getting worse each time. He tried to bite me yesterday, not a big bite but a nip. We cannot test him alone it is a two person job and we were thinking of switching him to insulin instead of glyburide but the if we can't test with just one person this will not work out. I have trained many dogs in my life and understand how to encourage a behavior but I would have started with alot of work before even trying to prick but we need to do it now and it can't wait for proper training. We have started clicker training and he is all good when it is not an actual test. The second there is an actual lancet in the pen he freaks out. How he knows i'm not sure. I'm would like to try the paw pad today but I am concerned about infection. He often steps in his poop in the litter. Is there any other place to get blood out of this thing? Even if he has to have a shaved spot that is ok.
Sorry for the long post it helps me to talk about my adventure with my cats. Thanks again for any info or tips.
