Hi all,
OK, I have a question. This morning my civvie cat, Kennedy, was pooping very small, loose stools anywhere he sat/lay in my apartment (lovely thing to wake up to!). He was fine last night, and didn't seem to have diarrhea or anything - his bowels were just very, very loose. He also acted generally 'down', like he was sick to his tummy.
I called the vet and asked if that would happen if he ate some of Casey's Miralax-laced cat food (she has diabetes and constipation). The vet said that was possible and said if he wasn't better in 24 hours, bring him in.
Well, he's better tonight - eating and back to his old lively kitty self.
BUT - his butt is a mess. It looks inflamed, and he keeps scooting it on the floor. He won't let me look at it, but what few glances I caught told me he's probably trying to get off the poop that's dried on his tail hairs. He also don't smell too good.
Now my guess is, his butt is sore and inflamed from all the straining he was doing today trying to poop. Miralax, like any laxative, will make you feel like going - only in Kennedy's case, there wasn't anything to poop, so he was straining out little pooplets. Yes, it's been a busy day for me, Mr. Sponge, and Mr. bottle of Resolve.
My question is - should I take him to the vet? He seems OK, except for the stinky butt. I'm not sure what they could do, apart from wash the butt (I'm not trying that, he'd take my arm off at the shoulder even if I was wearing a Kevlar suit). I don't see any bleeding or blood anywhere.
Any suggestions? It sure would be nice to have NORMAL problems...
