Hi My cat has been diagnosed with Diabetes. At the Vets, they had to sedate Ruebens, my 14 yr old cat, he was suffering terrible diarhheoa and was really unwell. They had thought he was in Renal Failure as his blood readings for glucose were so high. They discovered that his kidneys and heart were fine (thankfully) They prescribed Anti-biotics for his diarrheoa. Even though I believe it was the catfood I had recently bought. He has a sensitive stomach, but I was given stronger anti-biotics, which I think was a feline version of Metronidazole. I couldn't get those down him. I instead mixed diarolyte in water and put it in his food, he came on amazingly. I already had stopped, what I believed was the offending cat food. Anyway, he was prescribed Caninsulate 0.1.5 units twice daily, which I had a awful time trying to inject. He has become so thin, I could not grab an area to inject into easily. The biggest problem though, is the fact he does not like to be touched, except on his terms: I.e. at bedtime, he'll cuddle up to me.He was a rescue cat who had been found tied up in a box placed in a wheelie bin, (someone heard his cries as the binmen were ready to place contents of that bin into the truck) and was saved, very close call. He had, I believe little interaction with people in first 12 weeks of his life, when I took him in. He kept biting me, even when I didn't approach him, he would come up to me and nip me, not viciously, just seemed habitual. He has always been a difficult to handle cat. But I love him so much. Every injection is a nightmare, but think I've got it now. As I give him a little less food and add a few biscuits to a bowl to distract him. But, though I did buy a Cere-pet Blood glucose monitor kit. I cannot get a sample from him, he is just too wriggly and un-coperatve . I did ask the Vet to increase the dose of Insulin to 0.2 units which he is really coming on well with. But, what can I do, about trying to get a blood sample? As the stress of trying wore me out and stressed Ruebens too much. The Vet said that I needed to do it, but having met Ruebens knows how uncoperative he is? Any ideas please? (I've just ordered a pack of urine-glucose sticks for pets) but am fully aware these are not adequate for monitoring his blood/glucose levels.

Hi, we DO have the not the standard operations dangerous kitties to both handle and bg test e.t.c. My Simba for instance, and we have Phoebe's even more dangerous Norton, she's on personal fb, and last I know Phoebe was driving legs for Venita's former DCIN, and then the latest last year in U.S, until the Covid hit, and her name slips right now, came out with live proof pictures of severely bloodied injured she came out most often for long. That was September 2019 new Susan & Claudio https://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/threads/pic-will-explain-testing-trouble.224401/#post-2512849

For those, in vet clinical and home, we DO have since long SPECIAL SAFETY EQUIPMENT.
Currently we can't post pictures due to a Tech problem, but I can try find Links showing what these looks like and explain how they work.

They look like this one, and are used In Vet Clinic for Fractious Cats https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Pet-Supp...v1t4AtwwS2U6EHfY6diWcI3Gxf-HUGqwaAqyOEALw_wcB

Ask your Veterinary for them, and an In Vet Clinic safe handling and learning of how to safe put cat into them just for the short handling period as bg test, insulin, and even all Blood Tests at Veterinary Hospital/Clinic. Since it is not just to put cat into them.

You might want to check out this link Hometesting Links and Tips - includes numerous links, instructions, pictures, & videos. And even a link on how to do paw testing as an alternative that works for some. Also this video: How to Hometest A Fractious Cat (Video from Bonnie and Junior). Many people do the injection when kitty's head is in the food bowl and distracted.

@Ann & Scatcats You can either copy/paste an image or drop it onto the text box.

Thanks, Now I did find the 1st video, when I picked myself up from the floor...really funny. And some of what was advised in the 2nd video was worth noting.
I sometimes wish I had the help of another person..but I am alone. And my cat is fairly large, even with the weight loss, and I am really quite small, which really makes a lot of manouveres awkward, specially as I am rather un-coordinated (clumsy).
Looking at the cat restraints bag though, I really think I could find this helpful..so am going to order one today.

Thanks Ann & Scratcats for taking the time to advise, really appreciate that
