I used the U-100 for the past 2 shots. I noticed that you really have to push the plunger firmly when you give shot. My cat's preshot was in the mid 300-s and the +5 reading on a dose of 1.4 was 307. Do you think I could have messed up because the needle feels different? I saw the plunger go all the way down?

Could a bounce occur that early on with a preshot in the mid 300's. My cat ate some of his food but not as much as usual.

I do not think it is bounce. Different manufacturer's syringes "feel" differently when you inject. Are you using the same needle length as when you used the U 40 syringes?

Thanks Larry, I got the same needle length. 1/2 inch
I need using a U-100 needle for dummies. I used my u-40 again for now. Maybe they make one with half unit markings.

How do you manage caring for all those diabetic kitties? You must have patience.
I get overwhelmed at times, but I then take a step back and
thank God for his help with Lovey. I appreciate all the help I have received from this site!

This might be helpful to you.

Making a Reference Gauge for Half Units or Smaller.

If your syringes do not have half unit marks, you may approximate a measurement reference using a compass, a ruler, a fineline pencil, and some white cardboard (for sturdiness). This is most useful for U-40 syringes.

Draw a line equal to the length of 1 unit based on the syringe you are using. (If you change syringes, you may need to repeat this process.)

Using the compass, position the pin at one end of the line.
Set the compass angle to draw a small circle which is slightly more than halfway across the line.

Keeping the compass at the exact same angle, position it at the other end of the line and draw another circle.
The circles should overlap; if not, make the circles slightly bigger.

Using the ruler, draw a straight line between the 2 points of intersection between the circles; this marks 1/2 unit on the original line. (This line will be perpendicular to your original line.)

Repeat the process using 1 end of the full line, and the halfway point; that will get you about 1/4 unit.

If you can repeat it again, that would get you 1/8 unit.

Wow, I am going to reread carefully. Thank you for the instructions for more precise dosing.

Also, thank you very much for the BG number reference sheet. I noticed the alpha trak numbers in parentheses which was helpful to me.

I heard there was a difference but wasn't sure how much of a difference.

Its about 30 mg/dL at the low end.

At higher numbers - ex over 300 - it really doesn't matter what your number is, because it is too high and you need to figure out why and/or adjust your insulin dosing.

If you ever get a really odd number, test again and test yourself. Sometimes strips are defective, or the moon is in jupiter, or it really is that number
