Two days without insulin?

My sweet tabby cat has been on insulin for almost a year. We are about to be hit with an ice storm tonight and I'm going to my parent's house in case our power goes out. I don't know what to do about Tabby. I'm not sure how she would handle being in a different place for 2 days (she doesn't like being in the car but it isn't a long ride). But if I leave her home, she'll miss 2 days of insulin. Any advice??

I think you might feel more comfortable, stress or no stress, to take her and the insulin with you.
And I think it'd be safer for her - what if the roads stay closed more than 2 days?

In your 'Go' kit for her, pack:
Meter
Strips
Lancets
Insulin, wrapped against breakage & chilled
Cat food - regular and some high carb
Litter box
Litter
Litter scoop
Bags to dispose of litter
Blanket that smells of home
Any meds besides insulin - ex Pepcid for upset stomach
Feliway collar, spray, and/or diffuser to reduce stress
Toys if she likes to play
Claw clippers and brush/comb for grooming

Add my vote for the "pack her up and take her with you" choice!

With the weather, there's just no way to know how long you might be away. If there's an ice storm, you may also lose power. If she's with you, you can deal with it. If she's not, you'd have to make it back to your home somehow to get her, or she'd go without even longer.

I packed mine up and took her with me to a hotel while my mom was having bypass surgery. I expected the stress would cause all kinds of problems, but she had some of the best numbers in her life! Cats can sure surprise us!

Would it be possible to bring the cat and insulin with you, or to just stay at home and not worry about it unless the power outage actually happens?

Thanks everyone! I brought her with me and of course she peed in my car! At first I wasn't sure if it was going to work but she has relaxed and I guess we will make it over the next few days. Praying we don't lose power but I didn't want to be home by myself without power for days!

Did you not have a carrier for her? If not, that goes on your shopping list for next time as it is very unsafe for a pet to be loose in the car. One sudden stop or impact and the animal can be trown from one side to the other, injuring the pet and/or any occupant of the vehicle.
