About a month ago wal mart stopped stocking their special kitty turkey and giblets (among other flavors) Today we found that they had restocked their shelves but the cans now read "new recipe" We read the ingredients and the only thing that is different on the label now reads, brewers yeast, where it used to read hydrolyzed yeast.

We researched the difference but couldn't come up with anything to ease our worries. Does anyone know how this yeast affects BG readings vs the other yeast?

Mocha is a diet controlled kitty now, and has been steadily surfing in the 50/60's until yesterday when we checked her and she was at 80 after changing over to 9 lives chicken dinner .. Kinda made us nervous ..

Brewers Yeast should be fine and not effect BGs since it is often given as a daily supplement, yeast isn't a grain it is actual a good fungi that provides a not meat souce of protein and zinc, kind of like how you can use Portabello mushrooms in a sandwich as a substitute for meat. Brewer's yeast is used a lot of time to help animals that shed excessively.

Interesting questions.

The following is from a U of Maryland med school website:
http://www.umm.edu/altmed/articles/...nd it might even prove to be a benefit. Lana

Is there a customer service phone number on the new cans? If so, give them a call and ask them what exactly is "new" about the "new recipe". A couple months ago, when we saw an epidemic of kitties no longer eating, or getting sick from eating, Friskees Pates, I called Purina's service number and a very nice woman there explained what had been changed. She had no idea until I told her that hundreds or thousands of sugarcats world-wide depended on those varieties to give them a nice low-cost low-carb diet that was a huge benefit to diabetics. She does now. ;-)
Maybe you can contact someone with Special Kitty who can put a lot of people's minds at ease about what has changed so we can be sure it's still good for our beloved sugars. If you can find the right person, you'll find someone in the corporate machine who caresm like I was able to. And, you may even get some coupons for free cans of food which came in handy for me!

Carl what did they say about the friskies pate or can you give me a link where yall mentioned it?

I noticed the label changed but not just that there isn't near as much 'juice' and the cats dont seem to eat it as well as they did before.

Hmm thanks

I had to contact them once before when I opened a can and saw nothing but pink and white mold. They were nice and sent me coupons for new food, which is what I would assume they would do now.

I'm calling BS on what the lady said

I have old cans and new cans and I'm reading the ingredient list and it's not the same, I've noticed a few differences.

I have Salmon dinner, Mixed grill and Ocean whitefish.

I'm trying to take and upload the pictures and if I can I will start a new post with the pictures of the old and new ingredient lists.

Thank you for the replies. Our computer has been down since about an hour after posting this so this is the first time Ive had the chance to read the replies.

I have not put mocha back on the turkey and giblets because I couldn't read the replies but calling the company is a good idea. I am hoping we can put her back on this food without problems!

Just put both Maxwell and Musette back on the Special Kitty...and Musette is actually now running lower than she has on either Friskies or FF. =) (Couldn't get her to even try the 9-lives..sigh). And Maxwell is doing the same, but all the civies were just about throwing a party when I pulled out the Special Kitty again, it is definitely their favorite.

Well last night we put mocha back on the turkey and giblets .. she was in her glory .. what was taking her an hour to come back and pick at for the 9 lives was gone in a 5 minute eating session with the turkey and giblets .. she is one happy little lady now!
