Trying to figure out the next step for Sophie

Contacted Angell Animal Medical Center in Boston as their website indicates they do SRT. Spoke to someone there today - they partner with Dr. Nolan out of NC State. Basically, they do the work up in Boston and Dr. Nolan determines what they do. CT hooks into their SRT equipment. Biggest issue is the cost - $10,000. Would also require 3 visits, minimum - first for meeting with internal medicine, and then visit for CT and then visit for radiation. Probably would need another for followup. Passing along the info, though, as others in New England might want to consider this.

Think I"ll check into the cost for the surgery at WSU now as, even with the cost of flying to Washington State, it probably will be less than Boston. Anyone have the surgery done there recently? How much did that run and how long did you have to stay?

Check out NYC and NJ also. Both hospitals in NJ - Red Bank and Garden State do SRT. NYC does surgery.
 
We have one person taking their kitty for surgery at AMC end of August. @Amanda & Shmee might know costs, though she is benefitting from a donation given to the centre. A couple years ago, surgery cost at WSU was around $10,000. :eek:
 
The pituitary gland removal surgery is $16,000 - $20,000. If you are interested but do not have the money, I would call and ask of they have donor funds still available :) Talk to the neurology department. I know of 3-5 people considering doing it so I would call sooner rather than later because who knows how much was donated! My total cost there should not be more than $3,000 (mostly for the MRI).
 
So Sophie is scheduled for the last week in September for surgery at AMC. Same cost as for Amanda & Shmee. Seems that AMC;s benefactor's intent is to get their pituitary program going and get them recognition for the surgery. They are using the same approach that the Royal Veterinary College in the UK is using - advanced imaging such as MRIs to pinpoint where to go, as opposed to Dr. Owen (WSU) and her pilot hole technique. So glad that a number of us will be able to benefit from this.
 
Very exciting news! Paws all crossed for great results. It's nice to know other places are following RVC which has a good track record.
 
Hi Sue - that is really great news. Please post back here after the surgery. You will be helping future FDMB'ers with the followup results.
