Trying bloodtest again today

I'm going to try to do everything correctly and I'm going to sing to Romeo while I'm testing him. I'm scared. Please wish me luck.

When I first started this journey I was told this by a member that stuck with me since, when I am concerned or stress in making a decision for Corky
" Step back, Breath in and Breath Out, cats are very sensitive to stress, we stress they stress", You can Do this!:bighug::cat::cat:

Thank you all for the good thoughts but it's been a series of disasters.

Maybe I should mention that Romeo is a 15 lb, very strong and speedy, black cat who does not like to be messed with. I, on the other hand, am old and arthritic. When I tried to do the blood test he went completely nuts. He got away from me and I was not able to catch him for the rest of the day, so he missed his second shot.

When Romeo had an operation two years ago, I got a dog kennel for him to stay in while he recovered. He still goes into it. I told my husband to wake me up if he got into the kennel during the night and at about 3:30 am he did. I fed him and he ate well but I decided to wait until the morning to give him his shot in order to get him back on schedule.

This morning, I fed him again and got his shot ready. He was still resistant so when I tented the fold of skin to give him the shot, he jerked and I'm pretty sure the needle went all the way through the skin fold and he got none of the insulin. I'm waiting for the vet's office to open up so I can find out when to try another shot. Romeo is still securely lock in the kennel.

With a fur shot or if you question whether any insulin got into the cat, be safe and don't give any more insulin until the next dosing time. Your cat will be fine :)

Ask the vet about the Libre meter. It sticks to the shaved skin for about 2 weeks but is known to fall off or malfunciton before then. @Staci & Ivy posted a bit about the Libre her cat has and the shirt / tube top the cat wears to keep the meter in place: https://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB...ving-high-carb-food-4hrs.299083/#post-3253330

Squeem3 has a good idea about the Libre, even though as she says and also by experience, they are very unreliable with some issues, but you really need to test Romeo before each shot and at least 3-4 times during the day, and if he is not letting you, the Libre is the answer, the strips are very expensive, like $89.00 for 25, and each sensor at Walmart, the cheapest I found is $ 40, but the first one I bought they charged me $87.00 each one and they only last 14 days if lucky so you will need to have 1-2 at hand as well, if you get a low reading 70 or lower you will need to test with the ReliON, the low numbers are very inaccurate. I believe the Libre2, you can use a phone with the sensor, the sweater I saw as well is a good idea, you should learn how to place it yourself is very simple, the vet will charge you for placement and visit, you will save a good $100 every 14 days, but you need to know Romeo's BG before dosing or you might end up having Romeo having Hypoglycemia.
The LIbre Company guarantees the sensors for replacements, but when you call customer service you cannot say is for Romeo or they will not replace it, and it takes 48 hours to receive it, that's why having 1-2 sensors extra, takes away some of the stress:bighug::cat::cat:

I think we paid $35 for each Libre 3. If they fail or "fall off" early, you can contact Abbott and they send you a new one. You just don't want to mention that it is for a cat. Unfortunately, you have to wait for it to come in the mail... Dean and I ended up buying 2 or 3 to have a spare in case of failure or Kobe removing it himself.

I don't remember the Libre 3 needing strips and I didn't see strips in the videos that I watched about the earlier Libres either. Please let me know if I missed something.

you are correct Corky used the First Model that the monitor also had the slot for strips, and I needed to be present in front of the sensor to get a reading from the app, when I almost had a breakdown over the sensors, and no funds to buy one every 4-6-8 days I tried getting the strips and CVS and Walmart charged $87.00 for 25, so Marje talked to me about the ReliOn, I been married to it since:D:D:bighug::cat::cat:

I'm going to look into the Libre because I'm really wondering if he will ever allow me to test him otherwise, and there ain't no way he's going to let me do it 3-4 times a day. All the cats in the videos are so calm and peaceful. Not my boy.

Thanks for your support, folks.:bighug:
