Cassis syringe feeding a higher carb recovery food since getting out of the hospital on a lower dose of insulin ( 2u). Preshot high this morning, so increased to 2.25. Over 600 at PM preshot after being fed an our earlier. Gave 2.25 again. Only down to 507 at 3 hours and no feeding. Wondering weather to hold feeding and retest later, give more insulin or go ahead with PM feeding. In the hospital they were giving him regular insulin for high levels, but we do not have regular insulin.

So you were giving 3.25 a couple cycles ago? It looks like it got some decent numbers. Am I understanding this or are there some other issues? Any idea why he went up once home?

In the hospital he was getting nearly nothing for food for days. Came home very weak and has required syringe feeding every 4 hours with a higher carb recovery food mixture to regain some strength. We have tried not to increase the insulin too much, but his values have jumped pretty high today. May have been too conservative, but didn't know how he would react.

I don't know what to advise. It looks like he may need more insulin, if he is getting more nourishment. (Little food means lower numbers) I hate to see him in high numbers. If you give him another 0.5, will that mess up your schedule tomorrow?

With all his issues, I know it will be a real balancing act getting him to eat and feel okay and keep him in decent levels. I guess your best weapon is careful monitoring?

Down a little more at 4 hours. Will probably feed a lesser amount in an hour, see how he is in the morning and give insulin based on his level then. Urine has been negative for ketones. Thanks!

Update: Still syringing with lower carb food. Numbers have been pretty good with an occasional inexplicable jump. Multiple problems requiring constant attention, but seems to be getting stronger since his release from the hospital. Your support is much appreciated.

Is he getting Lasix? I understand that may increase blood sugar. Are you checking for ketones?
This must be quite stressful and you are doing a great job caring for this complicated kitty.
