I have a question.. briefly describing my situation with Govi she had a reading of 52 about a week and a half ago and was off insulin for a few days and the reading came back up so the doctor suggested half unit once a day. Now subsequent tests have been 226, 220 and 205. The last 2 days for some reason I have been unable to get a big enough drop of blood from her ear is there any idea why this is happening? I've been home testing for wellover a year and haven't had this problem any suggestions thanks

Okay. Are you using new lancets? Check the gauge, maybe they are smaller (larger number) than she is used to? Is she dehydrated at all? Do you know how to do the snap test for dehydration? Sometimes, too, it seems like there just is no discernible reason, it just happens. It's happened to me before, when I haven't been able to figure out why. You can also test the paw pads, if necessary. I will admit though, I tried it once on Squallie and he let me know in no uncertain terms that we weren't having any of that, lol!

You can also try warming her ears a bit; an old pill bottle filled with warm water, or a dock with a bit of rice and warmed in the microwave can help ( careful not to overheat the rice-filled sock, though). When Squallie has been in the AC for a while I have a harder time getting a decent sized drop of blood.

Have you tried rubbing his ear gently first or a warmed rice pack? I'd also shoot .25 twice a day instead of .5 once a day. You can measure with digital calipers.

Thanks for the replies but nothing's changed everything's the same fresh Lancet every time only this time today and yesterday, there are visible red marks where I tried to get blood. I do rub her ears and as I said I've never had a problem. I use a smidgen of pain relief Neosporin after testing and have never had any marks whatsoever on her ears.

Okay went to the vet today, I know it's Sunday but my friend works there and is there till 2 p.m. . So I went with my meter which is a human meter, an Omnis Embrace and checked it against their meter and there was a hundred and ten point difference. There's is an alphatrak 2 which I also own and got new strips for today. That's too much of a point spread for me, so I went back to the alpha track 2. She also gave me different lancets because I do believe the ones I have are a little smaller then those she gave me. The human meter read 220, alphatrak read 339.

Hi Karen, I know how you feel. It kills me every time anyone loses their sugar baby. Makes it very hard some days to come here and check in. But there is so much good to be found here, too. I don't know what I'd do without this community, they are like family!
