Tried really hard to kill Ben tonight

I got in a rush to go to work (I fly on an air ambulance and got paged for a flight). So I hurried up and drew up Ben's insulin dose and gave it to him before I rushed out the door. On my way to the airport it dawned on me that I had given him WAY to much. When I got home four hours later, his blood sugar was 27. So now I'm over on the Main Board getting help for a hypo.

The ironic thing about all this is the patient I went for was Hyperglycemic.

It's been almost a year and I was doing so well. Can't believe that I screwed up so badly. *Bad guardian*

Mistakes happen but you caught it quickly. Glad you are at home and monitoring Ben closely. No use beating yourself up. You have taken the right steps.

Glad you caught it! So sorry I wasn't around...I was off in dreamland when you posted. Mistakes happen...the point is that you monitored and did everything you could for him. How is he this morning?

439 this morning which I know is a bounce from the low numbers last night. Ben was a trooper through it all and acted just fine no matter what his sugar was. The only bright side of it all was the look on my boss's face ( Who is deathly allergic to cats ) when I came back to work with Ben in a carrier. I told him I needed to find somebody to work for me or it was going to be "take your hypoglycemic cat to work night."

Wow, Lisa. So Ben got to ride around in a helicopter last night? I imagine that raised his BG on its own. I am just glad you realized it! Really good Mommy senses coming into play there.

He just got to go to the hospital with me. I'm pretty sure they wouldn't let him fly. :-) I did get paged for another flight during this whole ordeal but another coworker went in my place.

:pI thought maybe he'd be zipping around with you, flying high! Literally, as that would be a very effective way to raise that low number.

That is ironic! You handled all that really, really well last night! Mistakes happen sometimes despite our best intent; the important thing is that you did all the right stuff to correct Ben's crashing #. So don't beat yourself up, Lisa! :bighug:

Glad to hear he's back up. I'm sure that accidental high dosage will never happen again! Sorry you both had to go through this, but he came through it like a champ.
