Hi everyone,

Thanks again for all the suggestions and support yesterday I did not quit my job and rush home to be with Tribby after her 2nd hypo yesterday. Her BGL was 9.8 at 5:30pmso I skipped her evening insulin.
My vet was helpful! He looked at the BGL chart I made and was happy with the levels. He considers "normal" 8-14 and a hypo anything under 3. She's staying on caninsulin 1u 2 x a day. She has prednisolone, flagyl and an OTC avid reducer for a few weeks. 1 week on flagyl, one week off, repeat.
Tribby actually seemed a bit better within a few hours. I'm also going to try a few food recommended by all of you.
Phew! Feeling better and so is my kitty!
She's gained a pound since our visit in Februay. Good news!

Glad to see that Tribby was okay. Your vet had a good idea to drop the dose to 1 unit with the recent hypos you have experienced. If you are using prednisolone you may find that the glucose readings may be higher. This is because any steroid will raise glucose levels...how much depends on each kitty. If she needs it for the IBD then that is what you need to do and if the glucose levels rise too much then you can ask your vet about increasing...if necessary.

Although 8-14 ( 144-252 US ) is still on the higher end, with Caninsulin you need to be more cautious about what numbers you shoot, because it can bring the glucose levels down very quickly.

With Flagyl or any antibiotic it might be an idea to add some probiotics since antibiotics can affect the healthy bacteria in the digestive system.

Hope Tribby continues to improve. :bighug:
