Triaditis

I read some old posts about triaditis and I am wondering if any of those kitties are still with us? My cat has been diagnosed with it and I am looking for some long term hope.

Thanks

I alerted a member Pamela and Tigger who has had some experience with liver, pancreas and digestive issues. Hopefully someone else will see your post as well. Tigger is alive and well, so yes, there is hope!

Do you have specific questions? Also, have you been told about giving Sam-E or S-Adenosylmethionine? Basically it is milk thistle, which helps the liver. Nutramax makes it for cats and dogs as the name Denosyl. There is another kind of it the name of which I can't recall right now. It has additional ingredients which might be helpful.

I had a civie with this - was quite ill - very elevated liver function tests. He is still with me 1 year later and doing very well. He is still on Prednisolone altho a reduced dose now, Ursodial, and Denosyl. When he was very ill he was also started on Amoxicillin and Metronidazole (Flagyl). He also needed to be "encouraged" to eat every 2 hours.

If I can help you at all - please let me know - it can be such a frightening time - I'll check back later.

Sending you and your kitty the warmest of thoughts

My Abby lived WELL with it for many years and then an unrelated cancer took her at 17.

We had to keep her on a 50% raw rabbit and 50% tuna fancyfeast.
An odd assortment to be sure, but if we messed with it in any way, that old inflamation would rear its ugly head.
I also would give her a tablespoon or so of organic yoghurt every 3-4 days.

Paws crossed your baby lives well with this as well.

Ditto what Patti said about the treatment. Tigger was on the same regimen except for the Prednisolone. We didn't have to go that route. The antibiotics were a must, but the Ursodial (Actigall) was what helped him to finally stop vomiting. He was on that for a couple of years after as well as Denamarin (SAMe and Milk thistle/silybin).

If you want to know more about his treatment in detail you can click on the icon next to the PM button below my name. My profile is there. Just scroll down to the Spring of '07.

Like Patti, let me know if you need any additional help.

P.S. Getting your kitty on a raw diet can help too.

Thanks all. My Remy was pretty bad, but he has turned around and seems to be on the mend. He is on a heavy drug protocol for now (its only been a week since he wouldnt eat or move) and has made some great improvements. Yes he is on denamarin and atigal, also pred until his Leukeran kicks in, which takes three weeks. What really made a difference was a drug called Remeron. Its is a newer appetite stimulant in cats and had him eating within 2 hrs of getting it.
So I am happy with his treatment, but I was worried about his long term prognosis. I am happy to see that the majority of kitties I saw post originally lived a while longer. Thanks for the responses.

Thanks for all the suggestions that I can use, too, for Shiloh. I got out the Denosyn and Ursodiol from last year to restart. He's in a low appetite phase these past 2 weeks. Donna
