Hello friend Trey is weighting in at 18 lbs and had his check up vet says time for him to lose a few lbs I am ok with that but she is suggesting Medi Cal dry or wet I am not liking the ingredents on the bad. What is your ideas about this !!!!!!

Hope all is well with everyone here .......hugs and green light to all♥♥

Just thinking of options...
What food is Trey eating now? How often does he get fed? I'm wondering if you could simply 'stretch' his current food with water and perhaps a few smaller feedings. You could reduce the amount by perhaps 10% for a few weeks and see if that produces any results.

Or check the food lists and see if there is a food that is lower calories but still in the same carb range.

I think that Dr. Lisa's site also has ideas about losing weight. I do know that you don't want him to lose too quickly. www.catinfo.com

And then, like people, there is always the idea of adding a little exercise. Maybe batting at a feather, following a string - whatever he usually does, maybe just a bit more.

My last choice would be the prescription food.

This is what is in the weight control dry formula
Rice, Chicken Meal, Corn Gluten Meal, Corn, Pea Fibre, Dried Egg Powder, Chicken Fat, Dried Brewer’s Yeast, Natural Flavour, Dried Beet Pulp, Flax Meal, Dried Tomato (Source of Lycopene), Calcium Sulphate,

This is what is in the weight control canned
Water Sufficient for Processing, Pork By-Products, Chicken Liver, Pork, Rice Flour, Salmon, Natural Flavour, Powdered Cellulose, Guar Gum,

This is in the calorie control dry
Chicken Meal, Rice, Corn Gluten Meal, Natural Flavour, Powdered Cellulose, Calcium Sulphate, Chicken Fat, Potassium Chloride, Dried Beet Pulp, Dried Brewer’s Yeast, Fish Oil, Salt, DL-Methionine, Calcium

Calorie control canned
Water Sufficient for Processing, Pork By-Products, Chicken By-Products, Dried Egg, Powdered Cellulose, Guar Gum, Calcium Sulphate, Potassium

So none of these are great. Of any, teh calorie control dry has the best ingredients, but it is dry, and there are better options.

Is this cat a diabetic or a civie? Cats don't need prescription foods, they just need quality canned foods in limited quantities!

Thank you for replying so quickly I was pretty sure that perscripion food was not that great so will try more opions.Trey has been OTJ for 10 months now but he so loves to eat ........Will stay in touch and more reading Thanks ,hugs and tons of healing green lights to all Kath & Trey

If you look at Binky's list, the number of calories per can is listed in one of the columns.

There can be a difference of 50% in the number of calories.

So you can pick some that have a lower number of calories per can.

I assume that's because there is more water in those brands.
