I recently purchased Cadet Gourmet Chicken Breast for treats. They were in the dog section of course but what caught my eye at first was it says it's made with real chicken. Ingredients: chicken, vegetable glycerin, soy protein isolate, salt. Crude protein min 65%, fat min 1%, fiber max 2%, and moisture max 16%. What are your thoughts about this. I see they also come made with duck breast.

Seems fine to me. Freeze-dried meat might be lower carb. The dog one maybe less expensive.

I get the big dog sized one from walmart - purebites. Its chicken and nothing else. The dog size bag is cheaper but I break the bits up as they are huge. They also have liver flavour but only Bailey likes it.

Soy protein isolates are made from soy flour. The isolate has had most of the carbs removed, but not all. From Wikipedia :

Isolates

Soy protein isolate is a highly refined or purified form of soy protein with a minimum protein content of 90% on a moisture-free basis. It is made from defatted soy flour which has had most of the nonprotein components, fats and carbohydrates removed.

No way to tell if those treats will raise the BG levels or not. Any pure protein treat is a better bet for our diabetic kitties.

Personally, I'd steer clear of this treat.

I have looked for them at our local Walmart, but they aren't at this one. Maybe I'll look at Walmart.com. We have a dog and two other cats so they won't be wasted. Thanks!

So your post just made me go look at my bag of freeze dried chicken treats. I also buy the dog ones as they last longer and better bang for the buck.
I buy Simply Nourish (from Petsmart) 5oz bag for about $8 last about 2 weeks.
Ingredients only list Chicken however
crude protein 75%
crude fat 5%
Crude Fiber 2%
moisture 6%
There is 12% missing - wonder what/where that is??

I suspect most of it is due to only minimums being listed except that for moisture usually maximum is listed.
