I was here years ago with Baby, who at about age 20 died from a heart related problem. But now my one remaining cat is 13 and is diabetic. So far, no insulin, she is on all canned, and likes grazing, so A put out about 1/2 a small can a few times a day.
Problem is the horrible constipation, the vet is excellent, but won't give me any ideas except pumpkin and that is helping but not enough. Poor thing just has little tiny hard balls coming out. Anyone been successful with anything else?
Also, how high has Lantis gotten, I keep hearing how expensive insulin has gotten.
Thanks everyone
Lynn

If you are not giving insulin, you need to be testing for ketones in the urine?
This is important as ketones can form in diabetic cats who are not getting insulin.
You need a bottle of Ketostix from Walmart or a pharmacy.

where do you live? If in the US you can get Lantus from Marks pharmacy in Canada.

I’m trying to think of people who have dealt with constipation. I’ll tag them if I can remember

There's a whole website devoted to the subject: felineconstipation.org

But if you would like the short answer :), these are all recommended options from felineconstipation.org, IBD Kitties, and Tanya's CRF that I've tried myself without much success with my Ruby but we're still working on it:

canned pumpkin in food or powdered pumpkin
powdered egg yolk by Food Fur Life
Miralax
S. boulardii + MOS by Jarrows *this works with my civvie Olive
slippery elm with George's Aloe Drink
Visbiome probiotic + Adored Beast Healthy Gut (pre/probiotic with digestive enzymes)
psyllium
