helloo.

the nugget here is having a bit of consitpation. :(

what would be the route for helping w that rn and then also maybe a maintenance routine?.. :) as know symptoms from this cause it because water is pulled from the body, dries things up, etc..

or do you just deal with it when you see it? think for the time rn while trying to get a handle on a good dose would be good to know can just give a therapeutic amount daily to just help w things for the time being, as have been adding water and has helped but but stools still a bit hard.. if anyone has an idea can maybe make suggestions.

was instructed by an good old vet of his to use 1/8 tsp Miralax if seeing constipation starting. thinking to try this. but yes. :cat::cat::bookworm:

Miralax is a good starting point for constipation. Start with 1/8 tsp once or maybe twice a day. I would not allow the constipation to get worse. If the 1/8 tsp. Miralax doesn’t do the trick you can increase to 1/4 tsp. It’s very variable by cat. Some cats need a pinch of Miralax a day to stay regular and some need more for a maintenance dose. It’s trial and error. Adding fiber to the food like plain psyllium husk fiber can really help, as can freeze dried powdered pumpkin.

ty!!! ok :cat: which might you suggest to start or do more? (was thinking whatever was easiest or expedient for me to get rn..)

If he’s still going but is just having hard dry poop, I might try the 1/8 tsp.and see if there’s any effect. Of not, I would gradually inc until he’s going normally. Then you may find you need to reduce the Miralax a bit until you get the right balance and don’t have diarrhea.

Is he still pooping regularly and it’s just hard? Or how long since he pooped?
ohh no yes he goes everyday.. adding the water helped i think not be so hard. but today struggled finishing a part.. :/ maybe will start really small.. like 1/16 tsp haha.. see. thank u!!!.. :) but yeah its a bit hard…. Used to be drier and harder but water again helped.. added to each meal.

Might you know some good brands for psyllium husk fiber and the powdered pumpkin?.. Also am thinking you do one of these, or can you utilize at the same time, within reason? Would maybe add fiber to food (the husk, pumpkin) and also do Miralax?.. or idk. :)

Just had the same problem (or so I thought) last week & her straining to poop ended up being just diarrhea after 2 vets examined her & said no lodged pooped. I had given her Miralax powder (1/4-1/2 tsp twice a day), Psyllium Husk fiber powder mixed in her food, and a little egg yolk in a syringe mixed with water so she can swallow it. I actually probably was increasing her diarrhea & didn't even know it! Anyway, all those definitely work bc I read that everywhere & folks here told me too. She already had a water fountain so that was good. Also 100% pumpkin, which I bought in case of emergency too. Good luck!

I use “It’s Just Psyllium Husk Powder Nothing Else” ordered from Amazon. Also use freeze dried pumpkin which is much easier to use than canned pumpkin —

Yes. Fiber like pumpkin can be used at the same time as miralax

As long as he’s still going you can probably gradually increase like that. If it’s been three days and it’s still really hard, it’s time to increase either dose or frequency.
